Joining and finding the perfect Direct Sales company is never easy. Alot of Moms are looking for a way to stay home with their kids and want to give it a go with Direct Sales. So I want to chronicle my journey to encourage other moms out there, that you CAN make a little (or alot) of $$$ doing Direct Sales. Direct Sales is a Sisterhood
I have been doing Direct Sales now for over 3 years. I joined to make the extra money of course, probably like a lot of you. I heard the usual.. from direct sales companies . . . “Be your own boss!” . . . “Work around your family’s schedule” . . . “Earn extra money for the holiday’s” . . . “Earn trips, cars, cash bonuses, etc.” . . . “Live your dreams.”
But after doing Direct Sales now for awhile, I found that there was a pleasant unexpected bonus. It was connecting with other women. First it was my Hostesses and their Guests. How nice it was, after doing my presentation, to sit, have some goodies and drink and get to know new people. Comparing notes on our daily lives, family and laughs. I am sure I could find other ways to connect with women, but direct sales is a great way to get out and meet others.
Then the most important thing I learned was how invaluable OTHER Direct Sales Consultants were as friends. Especially within your own Company. And what was great…people not even on my TEAM! Yes, we could have been in the same town, but we all know different people and I found out along the way that there were plenty of people to go around for all of us. People aren’t buying JUST your PRODUCT, they are buying YOU!
So one potential customer may choose another Consultant over you, or even switch. I found that it’s a waste of energy to get upset. It’s just like when choosing friends. Some people you mesh well with, others you don’t. Think back to some of the Parties you have been invited to, before you became a Direct Sales Consultants. Sometimes the Consultant would rub you the wrong way, and you just wouldn’t “click”. Other times you were like long lost friends. That is the great thing about Direct Sales, there are plenty of people to go around. Therefore, the “competition” ends up being your best friend and best way to bounce ideas off of each other.
When we focus on rewards and accolades as a definition of success in direct sales it can create a scarcity mentality. Only so many peple can be in the top ten, yep that's right only 10.
And how many of that number are in your downline? If you are lucky, one. For most people the answer is none.
My big issue here is it leads us to think that there is not enough success to go around. So if I find something that really works in my business I certainly am not going to share it. What if it gives someone else a step up? You end up turning on any other Consultant within your company that is local, into your enemy. So people even go so far as to bash a competitor. So you keep your sales “tactics” to yourself.
I have even found this to be true in the clients I coach. They are hesitant to share even with their own downlines, because this false "success" is so ingrained in them.
The other part of focusing on these recognition programs as a measure of success is that it can lead people to bad business practices in order to achieve the trip, the ranking, the title.
So many times I have been at events and heard people talk about all the discounts, giveaways, and incentives it took to get them there.
They may have earned a trip, a spot in the top ten, a new title, but they aren't making any money! And this is where the problem comes in.
We need to start defining success as being profitable.
Here is why this works so much better:
Everyone can be profitable.
This means EVERYONE can succeed.
And when there is enough success to go around, we shift from a scarcity thinking to a feeling of abundance. I am eager and open to share what is working for me be cause we can both be successful.
Your success does not diminish my success.
We will create a culture of support, sharing, a sisterhood of success rather than rivalry.
And here is a real "big picture" thought:
Earning titles, trips, rankings, etc is very focused on what I can gain.
It is a "what's in it for me" focus.
But when you change your thinking to look at how can I be profitable, it opens up possibilities.
Because in each of us is what I call a BIG DREAM.
Maybe right now that dream is to pay the mortgage each month, or put your child thru college, or save for retirement.
And if you go even deeper I know we all have a greater purpose for being here.
Causes and issues that are very near and dear to our heart.
When you focus on the 2 most important things direct sales can give you: flexibility and profitability,
you will be able to create a lifestyle that truly speaks to your heart in which you can afford to give of your time and money to support, organize, become a voice in the issues that real touch your soul.
so what do you think?
You ready to change your idea of success?
You ready to create a business and life that isn't about achieving recognition, but is about living the BIG DREAM we all have in us?
Reputation is your Number #1 Priority
Decide RIGHT NOW, that you will not become slimy sales people to get to the top! If you were going to be successful, it was to be done with integrity and your reputation for being focused on customer value still number #1.
Which means, DON’T worry about ANY OTHER Consultant is doing with THEIR business. FOCUS on YOURS!! Which means, getting OFF the message boards and getting caught up in what other people are saying, doing etc. NO BASHING other Consultants in YOUR company or any other company!
Go through each client you interacted with and asked yourself, "did I sacrifice my relationship with them or my reputation in ANY way." Because no sales goal would be worth that.
Here are 3 things to keep in mind:
1. Believe. In yourself, in your team, in what you do.
2. Pray. About it all. Not the outcome you're looking for. Pray that He's on board with it too. If He is and you're willing to do the work, and it really his His plan, He'll take you there.
3. Be nice to people all the time. Some of the people that purchased things from me this week, I haven't talked to in a few years. But when I had talked to them last, I had been nice and added value and that's what they remembered about me. And NOT only your customers but your fellow Sales Consultants! You can get AMAZING ideas from each other when you brainstorm! YES!! People that YOU see as competition! Crazy huh?! Lol
So have you learned anything yet? Well you should have!

I love this company!!
Scentsy Inc. Is now...Scentsy Family! How cool is THAT? Okay so let me explain in case you missed it! May 1st The Scentsy Family Launched another BRAND. This brand is entirely separate from Scentsy Wickless Candles. It's called Velata! It's Fun Fondue! With THE FINEST Belgian chocolates, and the easiest Fondue Pot to work and clean! So now I am a
AND I am ALSO a....
What is SO wonderful about this is, being an active Independent Scentsy Family Director...I am a Director for BOTH brands. To get the perks of being a Director, I have to make 500 PRV each month. But NOW Velata and Scentsy Wickless can BOTH count towards my monthly totals, even though they are Separate Brands. So ONE Team, ONE Commission Check. But TWO separate brands!!! Amazing! I love this company!
I need 4 more people to make my Team to to 100! (which I NEVER thought would happen) GREAT things are happening with The Scentsy Family! The next couple months are the time to join! A THIRD Brand will be announced at Convention in July! I am beyond EXCITED to see what it is!
Just think about it...how many Direct Sales people do you know that start off selling 1 brand. Then they get bored, and look to another company, different brand etc? So then what happens? If they have Teams, they have to divide their time between 2 teams. And that really isn't fair to those Teams. What Scentsy has done, was added entirely new brands, with their own identity, products, sales aides etc. JUST like if you were to start with a new company...BUT....it's all under the Scentsy Family Umbrella! And you have the SAME team and aren't dividing your time, which is better for the growth of your business and the well being and growth of your team!

WOW! Spring is HERE!!
I have been so busy with Scentsy, my daughters school, and after school activities, I haven't updated in ages!!! Oh my GOSH! So much to talk about!! Scentsy launched their SPRING CATALOG!!! And SO many NEW WONDERFUL products!!!! My favorite, by far is our new LAYERS line! LOVELY!!!!

I was really disappointed to get the news the other day, that out of all of our Charity Cause Products (Breast Cancer Awareness, Autism Speaks, Sunshine Kids) that our Sasha Scentsy Buddy, is selling the LEAST!

I can't believe it!
So I started Scentsy 3 yrs ago this month. At that point, I was desperate to find SOMETHING that worked, that I could stay at home. I had been out of my field of work for a few years and was really behind on the technology at this point. I wasn't as confident as I once was.
The first thing I experienced with Scentsy was the friendships I made with my Hostesses and Customers. Then the ease of selling it. Not saying it was always easy,...nope. Alot of trail and error and lost a few customers along the way. But I am always growing in my business. Once I went to my first Scentsy Convention I was TRULY hooked. I was amazed at how much the company GAVE BACK and how they really listened to their consultants.
One thing I thought I would never attain, was the title of Director. And I did it this November!! I can't wait to see my commission check! :) I went from 4 ppl on my team to 51 and growing! Everyone on my team is just awesome! I have team members in the U.S., U.K. and Ireland! It's insane!
YES it took ME 3 yrs. Others it may go quicker. But the KEY IS....stay POSITIVE and CONSISTANT. Building a Team and Returning Customers takes time. But it's well worth it. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel now. I am in a new town and trying to get myself established here. Once I do, I think I will finally "officially" replace my desk job monthly pay that I had and then some! :)
